Eastern tiger snake

This snake is considered very dangerous to humans. If a bite occurs seek urgent medical attention. 

Description

Body moderately robust. Head slightly distinct from neck. Colour is highly variable. Top of body can be any shade of brown, grey, black or yellow, with or without crossbands . Belly yellow to grey. Mid body scales are 17-19 rows.

habitat

Usually diurnal but in warm weather can become nocturnal. Lives in swamps, forests, grassland, rainforest, wallum , open woodland, heaths and scrubland. Common in urban areas in gardens and houses.

Diet

Feeds on lizards, frogs, birds and small mammals.

Distribution

From southern Qld, through eastern NSW, most of Vic and southeast SA.
