This snake is not venomous but larger snakes can cause a painful bite. 

Description

Body moderate. Head is distinct from neck. Colours and patterns are highly variable, but usually brown with dark edge yellowish or light brown markings in the form of irregular bars, blotches or stripes. Mid body scales are about 50 rows.

habitat

Nocturnal. Both terrestrial and arboreal, living in rain forests, forests, open woodland, rocky hills, grassland, savannah, swamps, mangroves and river edges. Commonly found in houses.

Diet

Feeds on mammals, birds and occasionally lizards.

From Marlo, Vic, to Kimberly region, WA. Also PNG.
