Common green tree snake

non venomous

Completely harmless and reluctant to bite, however all bites should be treated with first aid. 

Description

Body slender. Head is moderately elongated and distinct from neck. Eyes large. Colour is highly variable. Eastern populations are yellowish green , olive green, dark blue or brown. Northern populations are golden yellow with pale blue head and neck. Mid body scales are in 13 rows.

habitat

Diurnal. Arboreal , living in forests, savannah, swamps and mangroves. Very common in some urban areas.

Diet

Feeds mainly on frogs and lizards.

Distribution

Eastern NSW, from Batemans Bay , through eastern Qld and across the top end, NT, and to Kimberly region, WA. Also present in PNG and Indonesia.
